The Isthmus of Suez Maritime Canal : Bird's-eye view of entrance to the canal from the Red Sea, with the new harbour, docks and town of Suez. This detailed engraving is seething with activity - the dry dock, dredging, railway yards, paddle steamers all feature. A great scene of Victorian maritime industry. Unfortunately, as the engraving is one of thousands produced for a weekly illustrated newspaper, the artist and engraver are not acknowledged.
