This decorative map is by the famous 19th century draughtsman and engraver, John Rapkin. His maps were published by the prolific map publisher, John Tallis. The maps are characterised by the fine steel engraving, the decorative borders and the beautifully executed vignettes. This map comes from Tallis' famous 1851 "Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World".
