$35.00

This set of eight greeting cards features native birds of New Zealand from the 2nd Edition of Sir Walter Buller's History of the Birds of New Zealand, published in 1888. The featured birds are Black and Pied Fantails, Tui, Kea, New Zealand Kingfisher, North Island Kiwi, Huia, Bellbird and Silvereye, and the New Zealand Pigeon.

Sir Walter Buller, NZC, KCMG, FRS (1838–1906) was a New Zealand magistrate and held a variety of judicial posts in New Zealand. He also had a passionate interest in New Zealand birds. In 1872, the first edition of his History of the Birds of New Zealand was published with 36 hand-coloured lithographs.

The second edition was an expanded version and appeared in two volumes with 48 chromolithographs.

The artist for both editions was the Dutchman John Gerrard Keulemans, who was a leading artist and lithographer of the late nineteenth century.

The cards are printed on art quality white card and are blank inside. The folded size is 105mm x 148mm. Envelopes are included.

Packs of eight of any combination of birds can be made up as required.
