Map of New Zealand by Antonio ZattaAntique Print Gallery
This copy of Cook's 1771 chart of New Zealand was made by Antonio Zatta, the 18th century Venetian cartographer. Original colour. An attractive vignette in the top left hand corner. Copper engraving. This map was produced for Zatta's atlas "Atlante Novissimo" published in 1785 - the first atlas to include a map of New Zealand. When Cook's charts became available, many copies were made - Italian, German, Dutch, French. Of course, Cook's errors were also copied, viz. Banks Peninsula as an island and Stewart Island as a possible peninsula.
