Stitch BirdAntique Print Gallery
This chromolithograph print of the stitch bird is from the 2nd edition of Sir Walter Buller's "The History of the Birds of New Zealand". The 2-volume set of books was published in 1888. A fine example of early printed colour using limestone plates for each colour layer. The Dutch artist J.G.Keulemans produced the original image. The first edition, published in one volume, was illustrated with hand-coloured prints. I have many other bird prints from "Buller's Birds". If the ones you want are not on display, please ask.
|Dimensions (mm)||214 x 280 (undamaged section of print) 336 x 423 (including double mount)|
